Abstract: Background and aim p73 is a structural and functional homologue of the tumor suppressor transcription factor p53, which binds to canonical p53 DNA-binding sites, activates transcription from p53-responsive promoters and, hence, induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (reviewed in Melino et al., 2002).
